Independence came from the word "independent" which means free from the control or influence of others. In the Philippines, our Independence Day was marked as one of the most significant date throughout a year. It is held every 12th of June to commemorate the Philippines' declaration of independence from the ruling of Spaniards. Our national flag was raised in Cavite at the ancestral home of Emilio Aguinaldo.
We celebrate our country's independence not only because we achieved our freedom but also to acknowledge and honor our heroes who sacrificed their lives to set our country free. We are very grateful to them because despite the many challenges they encountered, they did not give up instead, they showed what a real unity is and did their very best to fight for our country's freedom.
As a junior high school student, I think it is impossible to do something big so contributing in celebrating of our Independence Day, respecting our flag and most importantly, becoming a proud Filipino are the only ways for me to show or to express how thankful I am to our late heroes.
